Dean Koontz - (1981) - The Eyes Of Darkness !FULL!

Some with penchant for extraordinary plausible narratives suggest that it is not only science that had sounded a warning, but fiction as well. American novelist Dean Koontz's The eyes of darkness -a bestselling thriller published in 1981, is used to backup this theory. In this book, Koontz writes, "in around 2020 a severe pneumonia-like illness will spread throughout the globe, attacking the lungs and bronchial tubes and resisting all treatments". Does the rampaging pathogen vindicate Koontz? A fiction is a function of imagination. It animates human experiences in a story form for certain scenarios of life, however not a dependable source of insights for policy choices. A fiction cannot replace science which, as "a continuous process of creation rather than constructed edifice" (Jadot, 1974:51), must always be at the cutting edge of human reality. Insights from science are important to shape the ingenuity of state leadership especially in times of national disasters. Those who study diseases--epidemiologists--do warn about their spread, what cause them, and measures for their control.
